Course Objectives

  • To offer a comprehensive exploration of the revolutionary developments occurring in the financial markets and institutions i.e., innovation, globalization and deregulation -with a focus on the real practices of financial institutions, investors, and financial instruments.
  • To understand the Overview of Indian Financial System, Investment Banking in India and also Recent Developments and Challenges ahead.
  • To understand the concepts of fund based and non-fund base financial services.

Course Outcomes

CO1. Analyse the Financial System, Banking and Non-Banking Institutions, Securities Markets and also the key terminology of Financial Market for employment opportunity.

CO2. Apply various types of financial services provided by Financial Institutions for investment advisor’s perspective to the various kinds of investors, which will help in enhancing the skill in the area of finance for employment and entrepreneurship.

CO3. Analyze and frame out the profitability alternatives to mobilize funds from capital market and money market for client and company helping in enhancement of critical thinking and analysis skills.

Financial System:

Introduction to Financial System, Indicators of Financial Development, Components of financial system: financial market, financial instruments, financial institutions and financial services. Role functions and types of financial institutions, Investment/Merchant Banking: functions and SEBI guidelines, Responsibilities of Lead Managers.

Characteristics and functions of financial market, Classification financial Market, Government Securities Market, Debt Market, Commodity Market, Derivative and Global Financial Markets.

Capital Market and Money Market:

Capital Market: Introduction to   Capital Market:   Primary Market, Methods of Floating New Issues, Players in the New Issue Market, Stock Exchange: Constitution, Control and Functions, Listing of Securities, Trading Mechanism

Money Market: Introduction to Money Market, Features of Money Market, Objectives, Importance, Call Money Market, Commercial Bills Market, Treasury Bills, Commercial Papers, Certificates of Deposit, Intermediaries in Money Market

 

Modules III:

Fund Based Financial Services:

Financial Services: Concept, Functions Growth of Financial Services in India, Regulatory Framework, Types of Financial Services, Fund based and non-fund based. NBFC- Scope, Functions, Role of NBFCs in rendering financial services.

Concept and types of leasing, Hire-Purchase, difference between leasing, hire purchase and installment purchase. Factoring and forfeiting. FINTECH and its applications.

Modules IV:

Non-Fund Based Financial Services:

Mutual Funds: Concept, different schemes, advantages, Functions, Mutual fund in India, Regulation of Mutual Fund, Credit rating: Concept, Importance, Process of Credit rating, Credit rating agencies in India.

Project: Project on different schemes of Mutual funds and Credit rating in India.

3.Electronic Payment : The objective of the study and analyze the progress made by Indian banking industry in adoption of technology and e-payment. The study is secondary based and analytical in nature. The progress in e-banking and e-payment in Indian banking industry is measured through various parameters such as Computerization of branches, Automated Teller Machines, Transactions through Retail Electronic Payment Methods etc. Statistical and mathematical tools such as simple growth rate, percentages and averages etc are used. The study also highlights the challenges faced by adoption of technology regarding e-payments and recommendations are made to tackle these challenges.
