Course Objectives

1. Familiarization with the work environment and challenges for an Industrial Electrician
2. Familiarization to the principles, materials, components, and tools required
3. Develop an end-to-end technical understanding to execute electrical works in industry
4. Complying to the industry specifications, guidelines and safety standards during work

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify the role and responsibilities of Industrial Electrician
2. Implement the knowledge of the basics of electricity, electronics and electro-mechanics
3. Use wiring skills as per the wiring diagram
4. Concept about installation and electrical inspection of equipment

Course Syllabus

Module 1:
Work organization and management

Method of oral and written communication skills with co-workers, trade seniors while handling and carrying out visual checks on materials, electrical fixtures, lights, tools and devices,Reading and interpretation of electrical works formats, permits, protocols, checklists,interpret scope of electrical activities, material/ tools handling by adhering to instructions or consulting with seniors,Method of providing instruction to subordinates or reporting to seniors clearly and promptly,Seek necessary support and complete assigned tasks within stipulated time duration,Keep good relation and maintain well behavior with co-workers.
-Handling electrical material, fixtures and device
-Carrying out conduit laying and cable laying
-Carrying out assembling of temporary panel/ distribution board
-Undertaking electrical tests by using measuring devices
-Selection and handing over of desired/
appropriate tools/ materials

Module 2:
Basics of Electricity and Wiring

Introduction to applicable Indian standard code of practice (electrical works)
Introduction to wiring symbols used in single and tree phase electrical diagrams.
Voltage grading of different types of Insulators, Temp. Rise permissible
Selection and use of cable lugs, cable jointers and other electrical accessories used for laying, terminating and joining cables (also include straight through joints), Type of cables (single/ 3 phase) used as per electrical load.

- Multimeter its basic use and function.
- Determining quantity and listing of required electrical materials/ consumables for cable laying activity along with their electrical specification
- Reading and interpretation of electrical cable laying arrangement
- Demonstration and identification of types of cables

Module 3:
Building Wiring

Guidelines provided in Indian Standard code of practice applicable to electrical wiring works, Common electrical wiring Accessories, their specifications in line with NEC –Explanation of switches ,lamp holders, plugs and sockets.
Concept of drawings, circuit diagrams and/or related schematics for single and three phase LV house wiring system
Method of determining use of 3 phases, single phase connections as per electrical drawing, specifications. Concept of specification, color coding of cables to be used in wiring. Concept of different methods of earthing i.e. pipe, plate, etc.Method of measurement of Earth resistance by earth tester.
Practice cable laying through conduits
-Practice installation of conduits, race ways, switch boards, distribution boards, lights, fans and lighting fixtures
-Carry out electrical isolations to the circuit prior to undertake
-Carry out inspections on installed electrical circuits to trace out leakage in the

Module 4:
Control Panel Wiring

Description of GA (general arrangement ) drawing, tag cabling according to the drawing, arrangement of the contactor and mcbs. Channel and wire duct arrangement.

Module 5: Installation and Inspection of Equipment

Ducting and wiring systems for commercial, domestic, residential agricultural and industrial use and when and where to use a specific ducting and/or wiring system ,The range of electrical switchboards used for commercial, domestic ,residential, agricultural and industrial uses and when and where to use a specific switchboard system
- routing and harnessing of the wire
- mounting of the channel according to the given GA
- correct termination of the point according to the given GA
- PVC casing capping angle cutting
- Correct termination adaptors used for entry of conduits into boxes,
boards and ducts
- customer report and testing
-troubleshooting of the panel after the supply by measuring its parameter.
