Course Syllabus

Theory

Freshwater fishery regions of the world and their major fish species composition. Global inland fish production to respective state. Problems in the estimation of inland fish catch data. Fishing crafts and gears. Major riverine and estuarine systems of India. Major brackish water lakes and their fisheries. Fisheries of major reservoirs / natural lakes of India. Flood-plain capture fishery present status of their exploitation and future prospects. Cold water fisheries of India.

Practicals

Analysis of species composition of commercial catches at landing and assembling centers, sampling and familiarization of commercially important groups. Observations and experimental operations of selected fishing crafts and gears in inland / estuarine waters. Maintenance of records on catch data. Visit to Dept. of fisheries, lakes and reservoirs, net making yards. Capture fishery resources of India. Potential of inland water bodies with reference

Ms. Prachi Siddharth Bagde graduated from Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University and received B.F.Sc degree in 2020. She was awarded ICAR-NTS (PG-2020) Fellowship for postgraduate program. She has completed her M.F.sc in the Department of Aquatic Environment Management in 2022.
