Course Objectives

  1. To gain practical knowledge by applying the experimental methods to correlate with the Physics theory.
  2. Apply the analytical techniques and graphical analysis to the experimental data.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply the various procedures and techniques for the experiments.
  2. Use the different measuring devices and meters to record the data with precision.
  3. Develop basic communication skills through working in groups in performing the laboratory experiments and by interpreting the results.

Course Syllabus

  Section-A(Compulsory)

1. Measurement of volume of a solid cylinder by Vernier Caliper.

2. Measurement of thickness of a hallow cylinder by Vernier Caliper.

3. Measurement of radius of a wire by Screw gauge.

4. Measurement of radius of curvature of a spherical surface by Spherometer.

5. To determine young’s modulus of elasticity of the material of a given wire.

6. To determine the surface tension of water by capillary rise method.

 

Section-B(Any One from each group)

 7. Acceleration due to Gravity (g)

  a. To find out the value of “g” by using Simple pendulum.

  b. To find out the value of “g” by using Bar pendulum.

 8. Thermal Conductivity

  a. Determination of thermal conductivity of good conductor by Searle’s method.

  b. Determination of thermal conductivity of bad conductor by Lee’s disc method.

 9. Reflection

  a. To prove the law of reflection through a plane mirror.

  b. To prove, for a fixed incident ray, the angle of the reflection is twice the angle through which the mirror has rotated.

 10. Refraction

  a. To prove the law of refraction through a glass slab.

  b. To prove the law of refraction through water.

 11. Resistance

  a. To verify the laws of combinations( Series/ Parallel ) of  resistances  using  Meter bridge.

  b. To determine the specific resistance of a wire using Meter bridge

 12. Magnetism

  a. To draw the lines of force of a bar magnet by using iron dust.

  b. To draw the lines of force of a bar magnet by using a plotting  compass.

 13. Refractive Index

 a. To determine refractive index of a glass slab using a travelling microscope.

 b. To find refractive index of a liquid by using convex Lens and plane mirror.

14. Friction

 a. To determine the coefficient of friction by inclined plane method.

 b. To determine the kinetic coefficient of friction for a block on a horizontal board.

15. PN Junction

a. Study the characteristics of  PN junction diode in forward  bias. Find out the forward resistance.

b. Study the characteristics of  PN junction diode in reverse bias. Find the reverse resistance.
