Course Objectives:
• To acquire the hands on experience and skills for various turning operations.
• To acquire the hands on experience and skills for various milling operation.
• To empower participants with the skills to assembling produced mechanical parts.
Course Outcomes:
• Understanding the tools and equipment used in the practice.
• Enhancing the skills in machining operations like drilling, turning, milling.
Module 1: Safety Practice (3 hours)
Theory:
Prevention of self, people present near and machines in machine floor, Safety rules to follow inside machine shop, Use of safety gears while working, prevent work pieces and fragments from being thrown out of the working area of the machine.
Demonstration and Practice:
Module 2: Introduction to conventional machines and machining processes (3 hours)
Theory:
Introduction to different machines, their parts, working of the parts and different operations performed by the machines.
Demonstration and Practice:
Module 3: Interpretation of different mechanical drawings related to jobs and parts (6 hours)
Theory:
Principle of Engineering Drawing/Graphics, Various Drawing Instruments, Conventions in Drawing, Principles of Orthographic Projections (First and Third Angle projections), Projections of planes, Plane parallel, perpendicular and inclined to one reference plane, Plane inclined to both the reference, Planes, Sections and sectional views, Right Regular Solids, Prism, Cylinder, Pyramid, Cone. Use of Auxiliary views.
Practice:
Module 4: Measuring and Quality control (6 hours)
Theory:
Introduction to Tolerance, limits and fits, Linear measurement, Angular measurement, Gauges and gauge measurement
Demonstration and practice:
Module 5: Drilling Operations (12 hours)
Theory:
Understanding the various types of holes that are used in manufactured parts, Know the various types of twist drills geometry as well as types of drills used in industry, Understanding the variety of machine tools and their construction
Demonstration and practice:
Different drilling processes;
Module 6: Lathe Operations (21 hours)
Theory:
Introduction to different types of lathes, their parts, choosing various aids used to locate and support work piece in lathe, selecting the large variety of cutting tools used in lathe machine, Knowing variety of common operations performed in lathe.
Demonstration and practice:
Practicing different lathe machining processes like;
Module 7: Milling Operations (21 hours)
Theory:
Types of milling machines and about their parts. Characteristic feature of milling process, milling cutters based on application, Indexing possibilities of parts
