Course Objectives

Course Syllabus

Module 1:Drawing study(8hrs)

Introduction, Role and responsibility of construction supervisor.Study of drawings : Plan, Layout plan, sectional plan, foundation plan, section and reinforcement details, column plan, section and reinforcement details, beam shuttering plan and reinforcement details, slab reinforcement details, staircase plan, section and reinforcement details, electrical drawing, sanitary drawing, Plinth protection drawing.

Practice session:

1.Study of plan and section of footings, columns and reinforcement details, Study of shuttering plan of footing, column, slab.

2.Study of reinforcement details of slab and beam, Study of stair case plan and its reinforcement details, Study of electrical drawing and sanitary drawing

Project(9hrs)

1.Study of different plan, section, reinforcement details of a on going project

2.Detail estimation of a on going project

Module 2:Bar Bending Schedule , Form Work and Scaffolding(18hrs)

Loading, unloading & shifting of reinforcement material in a proper sequence as per different diameter of bars & length  , Correct procedure for storage & maintenance of reinforcement steel, Understand, identify and demonstrate the use of hooks and  ring, Basics of bar bending schedule, Calculation of cutting length from the drawing, Selection of tools and  pin plate for bending of stirrups, Use of cranks and stirrups in RCC works and method of their preparation, , Method of marking and cutting reinforcing bars manually and by rod cutting machine, Binding of reinforcement.Basic knowledge of materials to be used in formwork (Plywood, timber, wooden Planks, Supporting jacks, Props etc.), Understanding safe method of lifting, handling, placing formwork materials, Practicing cutting shuttering materials (Plywood, Timbers) into given shapes, sizes using both power & hand tools for footing, column, beam, slab, chajja, projection and staircase.

Selection and handling of materials, tools and Equipments for scaffolding, Preparation of base area for erection of scaffold, Erection and dismantling of bamboo/Ballie scaffold, Single pole and double scaffold, Erection and dismantling of pipe & coupler scaffold.

Practice session:

1.Loading, Unloading, storage , Maintenance of reinforcement at the site

2.Finding out of strength and elongation of reinforcement at UTM machine

3.Find out the cutting Length of Reinforcement for footing, Beam and stirrup.

4.Bar Bending Schedule of Footing, Bar Bending Schedule of Columns, Bar Bending Schedule of Stirrups.

5.Bar bending  Schedule of Beam, Bar Bending Schedule of Slab, Bar Bending Schedule of staircase.

6.Method of cutting and bending of reinforcement, Method of cutting of ply, wood for footing, column and beam as per measurement, Making of shuttering with rigidity for footing, column and beam and slab.

7.Shuttering checking of column, slab beam and level checking of slab shuttering, Demonstration of bamboo/Ballie prop scaffolding, Single pole and double pole scaffolding.

8.Erection procedure for brick joint and plastering scaffolding, Safety precautions at site at the time of erection and dismantling of scaffolding

Project (12hrs)

1.Bar bending schedule of a on going site of footing, column, beam, slab.

2.Shuttering ply requirement and its design with rigidity of a on going site.

Module 3: Earth excavation, back filling, compaction, termite treatment(7hrs)

Introduction to SBC ( Soil Bearing capacity) of soil, types of excavation and its procedure :  Top soil Excavation, rock Excavation, trench excavation, basement excavation, deep excavation for piling, machines used for earth excavation, backfilling of filler material, compaction of filler materials.Advantages of termite treatment, Types of termite treatment ( Anti termite treatment and post termite treatment ) , Procedure of termite treatment.

Practice session:

1.Case Study on Different Earth Excavation techniques in Drained Clay, Wet clay, Gravel and dry sand, Wet Sand.

2.Case Study on Techniques for Soil Reinforcement ( For Loose Soil )

Project (9hrs)

1.Layout of footing of a on going project for earth excavation.

2.Post termite treatment of a existing building at the periphery of the building.

Module 4:Concrete Work ( Foundation casting, Column casting, Beam casting and Slab Casting)(15hrs)

Introduction to concrete, Different grades of concrete, Knowledge on Lean Concrete and Rich Concrete and its uses, Field tests of cement at site(Color test, Float test, Date of packing, Initial setting time and final setting time ),Shape and size check of coarse aggregate, Moister content of fine aggregate ( Bulking of sand ), Check up PH value of water.Batching of concrete by weight and volume, Mixing of concrete, Workability of concrete, transportation of concrete ,Placing of concrete, compaction of concrete, Use of different types of vibrator, Slump of concrete, compressive strength test of concrete, Ready Mix Concrete, Curing of concrete.

Practice session:

1.case study on Self Compacting concrete and shotcrete, Techniques of  Under Water Concrete & development of  “Green cement” for Sustainable concrete using cement Kiln dust and fly ash.

2.Field tests of cement at site : Colour test , Temperature test, Float test, Date of packing and cement storage verification, Making of Lean concrete as per the given grade.

3.Consistency test of cement,Initial setting time and final setting time of cement.

4.Shape and size check of coarse aggregate, Moister content test of fine aggregate.

5.Determine the workability of concrete by slump cone method.

6.Finding out the compressive strength of concrete by compressive testing machine and UTM machine of manual mix concrete & ready mix concrete.

7.Finding out of strength of concrete using nondestructive test i.e. bu core cutting method and rebound hammer method.

Project (15 hrs)

1.Layout of footing and column of a on going project and find out the quantity  estimation all concrete work of a on going project of local area.

2.Carry Out all quality control tests ( Slump test, workability test , compressive strength test ) of concrete of a on going project in a particular local area and make a report.

Module 5:Masonry Work ( Brick Work and Plastering)(12hrs)

Introduction to masonry work. Tools required for brick masonry work, Field tests of Bricks (  Water Absorption, Visual inspection, Dimension, Hardness, Soundness), Stacking of bricks, types of brick joint, brick joint as per plan, Positioning of doors and window as per plan. Procedure for hollow brick joint.Introduction to mortar, tools used for plastering, Procedure for inside plastering and outside plastering , Procedure of plastering at the joint point of brick and concrete. Introduction to dry Mix Mortar. Plastering Using machine.

Practice session:

1.Carry out all field tests of brick i.e. Visual inspection test, Dimension, Hardness, Sound ness test.

2.Carry out strength test, water absorption test of bricks.

3.Brick joint as per English bond, Flemish Bond, header Bond, stretcher bond.

4.Brick joint as per runner bond, English cross bond, AAC ( aerated auto claved concrete) Block joint, Laterite Stone joint.

Projects (9hrs)

1.Carry out brick layout of a ongoing project including toilet.

2.Carry out quantity estimation of brick joint and plastering of a ongoing project and make a report.

Module 6:Finishing Work ( Floor finish, Painting, Door fixing, Window Fixing, Ceiling)(9hrs)

Types of tiles ( Ceramic and Vitrified), Granite and Marble, Procedure of fixing of tiles, Procedure of fixing of granite and marbles.Types of wall putty ( Acrylic and Powder ), their uses , Procedure of paint of Acrylic putty and powder putty, Introduction to painting, types of paint : Base coat, Weather coat, Distemper, Plastic paint, Oil paint , All type of painting procedure and their advantages.Introduction to standard size of doors and windows, Knowledge on chowkhat and its standard sizes, seasoning of sal wood  and its fixing procedure, Knowledge on concrete chowkhat,Types of doors and its standard dimension for main door, Types of door and their uses  : Metal Door, Wood / Timber Door, Glass Door, Aluminum Door, Flush Door, PVC Door.

Practice session:

1.Field visit for this session demonstration of tile, granite fixing at site, putty painting and base coat and top coat paint, fixing of chowkhat and door, window, ceiling at site.

Projects(6hrs)

1.Supervise the tile fixing and quantity estimation of tile fixing, painting of a ongoing local site and make a report.

Module 7: Sanitary Work & Miscellaneous Work(8hrs)

Knowledge on Types of pipes its uses: PVC pipe, UPVC pipe, CPVC pipe. Sanitary pipe fixing as per plan, Water Leak check procedure of water supply pipes, Toilet Water proofing procedure, Knowledge on types of faucets and its fixing procedure.Roof Grading procedure, Waterproofing procedure of roof, Types and methods of expansion joint treatment, Plinth Protection, Uses of rain Water pipe

Practice session:

1.Field visit for this session demonstration of PVC,CPVC,UPVC pipe fixing at toilet, Water check procedure of water supply pipes at site, sanitary faucets fixing at site, expansion joint treatment at site, toilet waterproofing at site.

Module 8:Pre Engineered Building Structure(7hrs)

Prefabricated construction, necessity, advantages, disadvantages, Prefabricates classification, foundation, columns, beams, roof and floor panels, wall panels, Precast Stair case, Erection of  Prefabricated Structure. Advance Machines used for erection of prefabricated structure.

Practice session:

1.Case Study on Composite flooring System, Plan study of Prefabricated Structure, GA drawing study of Prefabricated Structure, Demonstration of erection of prefabricated structure at site.
