Course Name : Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry (Practical)

Code(Credit) : BPHL1104(0-2-0)

Course Objectives

  • The students will be well acquinted with the principle of limit tests, different classes of inorganic pharmaceuticals and their analysis. The practical paper deals with identification of different anions, cations and different inoganic pharmaceuticals.

Learning Outcomes

  • After the successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
  1. Determine the level of specific impurities in the given inorganic compounds by performing different limit tests.
  2. Use different chemical methods to prepare inorganic pharmaceuticals.
  3. Perform identification tests as per Indian Pharmacopoeia.
  4. Determine the impurities qualitatively be performing tests for purity

Course Syllabus

Limit tests for following ions-

  1. Limit test for Chlorides and Sulphates
  2. Modified limit test for Chlorides and Sulphates
  3. Limit test for Iron
  4. Limit test for Heavy metals
  5. Limit test for Lead
  6. Limit test for Arsenic

Identification test-

  1. Magnesium hydroxide
  2. Ferrous sulphate
  3. Sodium bicarbonate
  4. Calcium gluconate
  5. Copper sulphate

Test for purity

  1. Swelling power of Bentonite
  2. Neutralizing capacity of aluminum hydroxide gel
  3. Determination of potassium iodate and iodine in potassium Iodide

Preparation of inorganic pharmaceuticals

  1. Boric acid
  2. Potash alum
  3. Ferrous sulphate
