Course Name: Research Methodology for Agribusiness Management / Social Research Methods

Code(Credit) : CUTM1721 (2-0-1)/ CUTM1246(2-1-1)

Course Objectives

  • The course aims to impart foundational knowledge of social research methods and will help in demonstrating proficiency in the use of selected research methods and tools.
  • It will help in developing students level of analysis through examining the usefulness of various research approaches: content analysis, survey and field research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and case studies.

Course Outcomes

  • CO1: Students will be able to appreciate and understand the process of doing research [PO1]
  • CO2: Students will be able to use quantitative and qualitative measurement tools and sampling techniques and understand how to apply them. [PO1, PO2]].
  • CO3: Students will understand the characteristics of Qualitative and Qualitative measurement and how to operationalise concepts using each approach. [PO2, PO3]
  • CO4: Students will be able to apply various data collection techniques, for both Qualitative and Qualitative research. [PO6, PO9]
  • CO5: Students will be able to select and use appropriate analytical techniques for quantitative and qualitative methods. [PO3, PO4, PO9].

Analyzing Qualitative Data: Coding and Content Analysis

Project:

  1. Students should describe and justify research questions that interest them
  2. Students will perform a systematic literature review on one of their research questions

Practice:

  1. Students will formulate a problem statement in relation to the Dairy unit of Centurion University (Paralakhemundi) campus, review the related literature, undertake relevant fieldwork, define a conceptual framework and formulate the hypothesis.
  2. Students will formulate a problem statement in relation to the Mushroom unit of Centurion University (Paralakhemundi) campus, review the related literature, undertake relevant fieldwork, define a conceptual framework and formulate the hypothesis.

Students will describe 3 research questions that interest them, listed in order of interest. They should be able to describe why they are interested in these questions. One of these research questions may eventually form the basis for their systematic literature review assignment.
