Fundamentals of Plant Pathology

ASPP1101: FUNDAMENTAL OF PLANT PATHOLOGY:Plant pathology(Phyto pathology)is the scientific study of diseases in plants caused by pathogens (infectious organisms) and environmental conditions (physiological factors). Organisms that cause infectious disease include fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, viruses, viroids, virus-like organisms, phytoplasmas, protozoa, nematodes and parasitic plants. Ectoparasites like insects, mites, vertebrate, or other pests that affect plant health by consumption of plant tissues are not included. Plant pathology also involves the study of pathogen identification, disease etiology, disease cycles, economic impact, plant disease epidemiology, plant disease resistance, disease affect on humans and animals, pathosystem genetics, and management of plant diseases.

Course Objective:
The broad objective under Plant pathology department is to highlight the knowledge of plant pathogens and their interactions with plants-pests/pathogens leading to diseases .Students learn practically about the identification of major plant pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, nematodes, viruses, viroid’s and other microbes that cause huge economic loss to the farmers.
Course Outcome (CO)-B.Sc Ag
CO-1:The students get to understand about the early development & role of different micro-organism in development of plant disease.
CO-2:The students will be updated with general concepts and classification of plant diseases
CO-3: The students gain knowledge on general characteristics of fungi, bacteria, virus and mycoplasma like organisms causing plant diseases.
CO-4:They will be acquainted with reproduction in fungi and fungal like organisms causing plant diseases.
