Course Objectives

  • Familiarization with reading drawings.
  • Familiarization to use Auto cad or equivalent software.
  • Develop knowledge of different symbols and terms used in civil drawings.
  • Complying with the industry specifications and guidelines work.

Learning Outcomes

  • Carry out the initial setup and understand the requirement for the preparation of drawings.
  • Prepare 2d  drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) system.
  • Work effectively in a team to deliver desired results at the workplace.
  • Plan and organize work to meet the expected outcome.

Course Syllabus

Module 1: Introduction 

Introduction about Draughtsman, Major responsibilities of Draughtsman, Role description/functions and tasks performed by Draughtsman, Future possible progression and career development provisions for Draughtsman.

Module 2:  Initial setup for the preparation of Drawings.

 knowledge of different types of construction projects. Types of drawings including plan, sections, elevations, projections as-built drawings, importance, and need for document control.

Practice-1 Introduction of auto cad software and Installation of 32-bit and 64-bit system.

Practice-2 Setting of all tools of auto cad software to use in drafting.

Practice-3 knowledge on different types of command in auto cad software 1.

Practice-4 knowledge on different types of command in auto cad software 2

Practice-5 knowledge on units, dimension(linear and aligned).

Practice-6 ,7  simple demo drawing using tools and command.

Module 3: Drafting using CAD software

 Practice-8 Setting out of a plan and its finalization.

Practice-9 Drafting of brick layout plan in auto cad.

Practice-10 Positioning of window, door, and ventilator in the plan.

Practice-11 Positioning of the column in the plan.

Practice-12 Drafting of typical floor plan.

Practice-13 drafting of the sectional plan.

Practice-14 Drafting of the plan and sectional plan of the staircase.

Practice-15 Drafting of the centerline of the column.

Practice-16 Drafting of column plan and section.

Project - (any one of the following projects will be done by one group, each group having 4 members)

  •  Drafting of the multi stored academic building.
  •  Drafting of the multi stored hostel building.
  •  Drafting of the multi stored residential building.
  •  Drafting of the multi stored shopping complex.

Module 4: Paper, printing, folding 

Practice-18 Knowledge of different types and sizes of papers and area of application.

Practice-19 Knowledge about operation about printer and plotter to produce a hard copy of drawing in the required number.

Practice-20 knowledge on folding procedures of different size papers and filling.

Module 5: Quantity estimation of the project

Brief description of quantity estimation of earth excavation, concrete work, plastering, painting, door & window, floor finish.

 Practice-21  Estimation of earth excavation, concrete work (foundation. column, slab, beam ).

Practice-22 Quantity estimation of plastering and painting.

Practice-23 Quantity estimation of the door, window, floor finish, staircase.

 

Project - 

submission of a project report containing 2d drafting of the plan, section, quantity estimation of respective project.
