Course Description

This course introduces basic principles and techniques of beekeeping

This course is divided into four modules namely

  1. History, importance, types, life cycle and behavior of honeybees
  2. Bee hives, beekeeping tools, seasonal management of honeybees
  3. Natural enemies of honeybees and their management
  4. Economical benefit of beekeeping

Type of course:

Skill course: (Practice)

Eligibility: 10th/12th/ ITI pass/ Anyone with normal health and mental conditions

Prerequisite: Participants should have basic idea of raising flowering crops throught the year

Duration of the course: 4 months

  1. What is beekeeping / Apiculture
  2. Difference between Honey haunting and Scientific beekeeping
  3. Importance of beekeeping
  4. Important types of honeybee species
  5. Life cycle and caste system of honeybees
  6. Behaviour and adaptations of honeybees

Module 2: Bee hives, beekeeping tools, seasonal management of honeybees

  1. Immovable and movable hives and types of bee hives
  2. Different parts of a bee box
  3. Different beekeeping tools
  4. Seasonal management of honeybees round the year

Module 3: Natural enemies of honeybees and their management

  1. Pests of honeybees and their management
  2. Diseases of honeybees and their management

Module 4: Economical benefit of beekeeping

  1. Primary investment for start up of a bee farm
  2. Potential and economic benefit of beekeeping
