Course Objectives : 

1.Foundational knowledge in all basic subjects along with medical terminology , technical skills like airway management , Patient monitoring , vitals checking.

 

2.Practical knowledge regarding intravenous access , drug dosages , drug loading , Sterilization,disinfection

 

3.General Concern forms selecting and patient approach and assessment  in different areas like, OT , ICU and Casualty . Patient positing for different surgeries, and in different workstation areas . Maintaining patient privacy and dignity. To be known with emergency protocols and responses

 

  1. Learning  by Doing - Application of the knowledge learnt in the class room to the patient in a proper way by following the ethical way . Maintaining proper communication with the patient and hospital staff till the end. Documentation of every procedure in related forms is important   

Course Outcome: 

 

CO1 : Foundation for Anesthesia - Types of anesthesia and location will be taught and practical demo will be seen in the lab

CO2 : Equipment and Monitoring  - OT theater Equipment operating and maintenance , disinfection and reading the parameters appeared in patient Monitoring devices.

CO3 : Patient care and Safety : Patient safety during procedure and post operatively and ensuring the safety measurement by continuous monitoring of the vitals 

CO4 : Usage of OT Equipment and Handling Intravenous access : Getting Intravenous access and doing the different types of injections on patient , operating and insertion of different tubes and catheters to the patient 

 

Module I: Introduction to anesthesia and OT

Basics of anesthesia and operation theatre. Protocols to be followed in ICU and OT

Role of anesthesia technologists in OT, ICU & Casualty. 

  • Communication Skills
  • Relationship with patients, process of communication

 

Module II: Patient care:

Nursing Processes, Problems solving approach, assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.

 

Module III: First Aid and Emergencies

Definition, basic principles, scope and rules, Wounds, haemorrhages, shock, fracture, dislocation and muscle injuries, respiratory emergencies, resuscitation, unconsciousness, Miscellaneous conditions, burns, scalds, foreign bodies in the skin, eyes, ear, nose, throat and stomach. Frostbite, effects of heart cramps, bites and stings. Poisoning, Transporting injured persons.

 

Module IV: Organization of OT:

  1. a) Technician role and responsibilities b) Safety norms, c)Air exchange and air condition, d) defibrillator e) Crash cart and its contents, 

 

Module V: Equipment & instruments in ICU & OT 

ICU: syringe pump, infusion pump, monitors, suction apparatus, different charts in ICU, different trays in ICU   (intubation, IV cannulation, LP, emergency drug)

OT: OT table, OT lights, OT requirements, cautery, flow meters, CSSD, different instruments in OT (major and minor instruments)

 

Module VI: Patient Hygiene and Health 

  • Care of skin, mouth, eyes, nails, hair
  • Menstrual hygiene, clothing, mental health, common health problems of poor personal hygiene.

 

Module VII: Health Education

Introduction to principles and methods of health education. Use of audio visual aids, mass education, Role of anesthesia technologists in health education.

 

Basics of Nursing Practice

 

  1. First Aid
  2. CPR,
  3. Nursing Workshops.
  4. Bandaging types
  5. Various positions in the nursing foundation lab.
  6. Ward visit to monitor BMW management.
  7. Demonstration of Patient care Procedures:
  8. Positioning of patient, transport of the patient, Dressing and Bandaging, Care of intercostal drain tube, Insertion of naso-gastric tube and feeding
  9. Phlebotomy and obtaining blood samples, Arterial Blood sampling for ABG
  10. Injections: intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous, intradermal
  11. Insertion of intravenous catheter and infusion of medications, blood transfusion
  12. Recording of ECG and monitoring of patient
  13. Oxygen therapy: oxygen cannula masks. Aerosol therapy: nebulization, inhalers
  14. Suctioning and care of artificial airway
  15. Insertion of urinary bladder catheter
  16. PPE
  17. Basic Life Support (BLS)
