Course Objectives

  • To identify different types of cacti and succulents and their characteristics
  • Describe the tools required for grafting and propagation
  • Understand the basic principles of plant physiology related to grafting and propagation
  • Demonstrate the techniques of cactus and succulent grafting and propagation

Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand and learn the principles of cactus and succulent grafting and propagation as well as identify the different parts of a cactus and succulent, know how to select the appropriate plant material for grafting or propagation.
  • Learn appropriate techniques for grafting or propagating cacti and succulents, including preparing the rootstock and scion, aligning the vascular tissue, and securing the graft.
  • Gian knowledge on watering, fertilization, and pest control for cactus gardening

Module 1: Introduction to Cactus and Succulents Grafting and Propagation

Practice 1: Introduction to types of succulents and their benefits

Practice 2: Tools required for grafting and propagation of cactus & succulents.

Module 2: Soil preparation

            Practice 3: Preparation of soil composition for cactus bed with different composition

Practice 4: Rootstock and scion selection

Module 3: Basic cactus Propagation Techniques

            Practice-5: Preparation and multiplication of stock and scion for grafting

Practice 6: Propagation of cactus and succulent through different methods

Module 4: Advanced Grafting Techniques

Practice 7: Multi variety grafting with single stock

Practice 8: Preparation of rootstock and scion

Module 5: Maintenance and growth monitoring 

Practice 9: Application of pesticide and other necessary fertilizers for cactus cultivation

Practice 10: Watering, repotting and transplanting grafted plants

Practice 11: Pruning and shaping grafted plants

Practice 12: Post-grafting and propagation care
