Course Name : Job Role - CNC Operator & Programmer

Code(Credit) : CUTM3016(1-4-1)

Course Objectives

  • Carry out Preparations for Programming CNC machine for production
  • Test and prove the program on the CNC Machine
  • Maintain 5S at the work premises & programming the machine for specific tool operations
  • Preparation of process plan & optimize the cycle time 

Learning Outcomes

  • Ability to analyse the drawing to get the stages of product development from the raw material as per the availability of tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to optimise the machining time for getting the component / part ready by machining
  • Ability to make/ generate part- program from the drawing.Program execution in CNC & testing its validation.
  • Ability to test and validate the Program execution in CNC.
  • Aware about different pre-machining & post machining activities. Ability to use of proper inspection tools & cutting tools.

Course Syllabus

Module 1:  

Safety Practice (3hrs)

Practice-Demonstration of  Personal safety, Professional safety and machine safety.

Practice- Demonstration of uses of Personal Protective Equipment.

 Module 2:

Introduction to  CNC technology & programming. (3hrs)

Practice: Demonstration on  CNC machine tools ,CNC controller and Types of CNC control

Practice: Demonstration of different parts of different CNC machines.

Module 3:

Interpretation of different mechanical drawings related to jobs and parts.(6hrs)

Practice- Demonstration and Practice of  identifying feature from drawing and operation from feature.

Module 4:

Measuring and Quality control. (6hrs)

Practice- Demonstration and practice of using different measuring tools while working on machine.

Practice- Demonstration and practice of different quality checking processes like flatness, angle, go-no go.

Module 5:

Coordinate System & Types of Codes.(12hrs)

Practice- Demonstration and practice of different types of co-ordinate system used in CNC.

Practice- Demonstration and practice of calculating the coordinates of the job on a 3D plane.

Practice- Demonstration of the uses of different G-codes and M-codes.

Module 6:

CNC Lathe Part programming. (15hrs)

Practice- Demonstration and practice of different part programming of CNC lathe machining processes like facing, turning, taper turning, thread cutting and knurling. 

Module 7:

CNC Milling Part programming . (18hrs)

Practice- Demonstration and practice of different milling machine operations like face milling, end milling, profile milling & pocket milling.
