Course Name: Organization Change and Development

Course Rationale:

The course is designed to prepare students as potential change agents and organization development professionals. The purpose of this course is to plan and implement changes at the individual, group and organizational level.

Course Objectives:

  • To provide knowledge on the theories and models of changes
  • To develop skills on organizational analysis trough different diagnostic approaches
  • To impart knowledge on the interventions and intervention process for development of organizations

Course Outcomes:

After completion of the course students will be able to

CO1: Apply the diagnostic models to determine the change requirements

CO2: Develop intervention strategies

CO3: Implement and lead the changing process

Course Content:

Module: I Change Models

Conceptual Analysis of Change, Prototypical Theories of Change (Life cycle, Teleological, dialectical, evolutionary, ‘E’& ‘O’); Organizational Change, Forces and Models of Organizational Change (Lewin’s change model, Planning model, Action research model, Integrative model).

 Module: II Diagnosis

Organizational Development Process: Entering and contracting; Diagnosing organizations, groups and jobs; Analysis of diagnostic information; Feedback, Designing Intervention

 Module: III Interventions

OD Interventions: Types- Human Process, Techno-structural, Human Resource Management Intervention, Strategic Change Interventions

 Module: IV Leading Change

Leading and managing change: Role of change of Agent, creating readiness to change and strategies to overcome resistance, transition management and sustaining transformational change.

Projects

  1. Select an Organization (Preferably engaged in Summer Internship or GT entity), Make a list of signinificant changes in that organization during last five years. Identify the forces that trigger changes in the organization. Analyse the effect of changes.
  2.  Diagnose the problems faced by the organization now.
  3. Propose the interventions to be carried out in the organization.
