Course Objectives

  • • To have an understanding about the degradation of productive soil and the causes of its erosion.
    • To make the students understand about the measurement techniques for soil loss and wind erosion .
    • To know the different agronomical and engineering measures adopted for its control alongwith its design.

Learning Outcomes

  • After learning the topic a student will be able to know about-
    • The various types of soil,water and wind erosion along with its mitigation measures.
    • The agronomic and engineering methods of conservation and the design of bunds and terraces being implemented on the field.
    • Minimise the erosion loss and conservation of soil.

• Gully Classification and control measures

• Visit to soil erosion site.

• Soil loss estimation – Universal soil loss equation (USLE)
• Water erosion control measures - agronomical measures
• Engineering measures– Contour Bunds and Graded Bunds
Practice-
• Calculation of erosion index.
• Study of different soil loss measurement devices.
• Design of contour bunds.
• Design of graded bunds.
