Course Learning Outcome
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the principles and significance of interventional radiology procedures and demonstrate understanding of patient care protocols, informed consent, and patient monitoring responsibilities during such procedures.
2. Identify and operate key interventional equipment including Cath lab units, C-Arm, DSA units, pressure injectors, endoscopes, pacemakers, and contrast media delivery systems.
3. Demonstrate competency in vascular access techniques, including femoral and arm approaches, and the use of catheters, guidewires, dilators, and balloons, along with knowledge of the Seldinger technique.
4. Differentiate between imaging technologies and components such as single vs. biplane angiographic systems, image intensifiers, flat panel detectors, and electromechanical injectors used in interventional procedures.
5. Understand medication protocols, risks, and contraindications associated with Cath Lab procedures and follow sterilization and safety measures to maintain a controlled clinical environment.
6. Describe various angiographic procedures including coronary, peripheral, cerebral, carotid, renal angiography, and advanced imaging techniques like CT, MR angiography, and vertebroplasty.
7. Assist and participate in image-guided biopsy techniques, including CT, MRI, and ultrasound-guided biopsies, and demonstrate knowledge of special procedures like TIPS and endovenous ablation.
8. Comprehend the role and application of anaesthesia in diagnostic radiology, including general, regional, local anaesthesia, sedation types, and the use of cryoablation in procedures.
9. Recognize anaesthetic challenges in advanced imaging techniques, particularly in vascular studies, venography, and MRI, and work in coordination with anaesthesia teams during such procedures.
10. Develop a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of interventional radiology through integration of imaging technology, patient care, pharmacology, and procedural safety to contribute effectively in a clinical setting.
