Animal Biotechnology - CUTM2365 (3-0-1) Course Objective:
  • To provide the fundamentals of animal cell culture, details of disease and therapy

    CO1  Knowledge of animal cells, basics of animal tissue culture technique, knowledge of media, and their fundamentals, preservations etc Understand the detailed functions of the animal cells and their intricate functions PO1 (3)
    CO4, CO7 Individual and team work: Students will be able to know the animal cell culture and its use for developing valuable products PO9 (3):
    CO5 Use of practical approach for animal cell culture and its methodology for experiments, analysis, and interpretation of data, in molecular biology PO2 (3)
     Session Plans Module I Animal Cell Culture Introduction to basic tissue culture techniques; chemically defined and serum free media; animal cell cultures, their maintenance and preservation; various types of cultures; suspension cultures, continuous flow cultures, immobilized cultures;
  • II Somatic cell fusion                                                                                              Somatic cell fusion; cell cultures as a source of valuable products
  •   Module III Organ cultures                                                             Information about organs; culture techniques and preservation
  • Module IV Animal diseases and their Diagnosis                                                                                                       Bacterial and viral diseases in animals; monoclonal antibodies and their use in diagnosis; molecular diagnostic techniques like PCR, in-situ hybridization; northern and southern blotting; RFLP. Module V Therapy of Animal Diseases                                                                                                       Recombinant cytokines and their use in the treatment of animal infections; monoclonal antibodies in therapy; vaccines and their application in animal infections; gene therapy for animal diseases.
